David M. Rubenstein is a Co-Founder and Co-CEO of The Carlyle Group, one of the world’s largest private equity firms.  Mr. Rubenstein co-founded the firm in 1987.  Since then, Carlyle has grown into a firm managing more than $157 billion from 32 offices around the world. 

Mr. Rubenstein, a native of Baltimore, is a 1970 magna cum laude graduate of Duke, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.  Following Duke, Mr. Rubenstein graduated in 1973 from The University of Chicago Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review.

From 1973-75, Mr. Rubenstein practiced law in New York with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.  From 1975-76 he served as Chief Counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Constitutional Amendments.  From 1977-1981, during the Carter Administration, Mr. Rubenstein was Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy.  After his White House service and before co-founding Carlyle, Mr. Rubenstein practiced law in Washington with Shaw, Pittman, Potts & Trowbridge (now Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw Pittman).

Mr. Rubenstein is Chairman of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a Regent of the Smithsonian Institution, Vice-Chairman of the Boards of Duke University, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Brookings Institution, and the President of the Economic Club of Washington.

Mr. Rubenstein is on the Board of Directors or Trustees of Johns Hopkins University, University of Chicago, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Johns Hopkins Medicine, the Institute for Advanced Study, the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution.

Stephen J. Furnary is the Chairman & CEO of Clarion Partners, LLC, as well as Chairman of its Executive Board.  Clarion Partners, a leading real estate investment manager in the Americas, was founded in 1982 and today has $27 billion in total assets under management across the United States, as well as Mexico and Brazil.  Steve led the 2011 management buyout of Clarion Partners from ING Group after a twelve-year affiliation.  He joined Clarion Partners in 1984, and was a founding partner of the firm.  From 1980 – 1983, Steve was a Partner and Executive Vice President at Lazard Realty, Inc.  Prior to that, he was a Vice President and regional head of acquisitions in Citibank’s Real Estate Investment and Management Department from 1974 – 1980.

Steve received a B.S. from Villanova University in 1972, and an M.B.A. from Boston College in 1974.  He is a Governor and former Trustee of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), a former Chairman of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA), as well as former Chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM).  Steve is an appointed vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a voluntary national health agency, and serves as an advisory board member to the Villanova School of Business.

Coburn Packard is a Partner at Apollo Global Management, responsible for the firm’s U.S. real estate equity investment business. Prior to joining Apollo in September 2010, he led the investment activities of Ridgeline Capital Group, an independent real estate investment management company focused on investments to restructure and recapitalize real estate companies and properties in the United States.  Prior to co-founding Ridgeline in 2009, Mr. Packard was a senior principal of Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners.  Mr. Packard was a founding member of Lehman Brothers’ real estate private equity business focused on investing in the Americas with involvement in the formation, structuring and fundraising activities of the business.  Prior to joining Lehman Brothers Real Estate Partners in 1999, Mr. Packard was a member of Lehman Brothers' Real Estate Investment Banking Group, where he participated in numerous debt, and public and private equity financing and strategic advisory assignments on behalf of public and private real estate companies. Mr. Packard has directly invested and has been actively involved in the asset management and disposition activities of real estate transactions with a total capitalization of over $25 billion throughout the United States and Latin America and across asset classes.  He has served as on the board of directors of portfolio companies including Archstone and Tishman Hotel & Realty. John W. Randall is a Senior Vice President of PCCP, LLC.  Mr. Randall joined PCCP in December 2009 and focuses on East Coast debt and equity originations particularly in the Mid-Atlantic area.  Prior to PCCP, Mr. Randall spent six years and invested over $1 billion in real estate debt and preferred equity positions within the Real Estate Private Equity group of Lehman Brothers.  Prior to Lehman Brothers, Mr. Randall was a Vice President with Deutsche Bank, originating and underwriting mezzanine investments for the DB Real Estate Mezzanine Investment Funds.  Mr. Randall's experience also includes work at Daiwa Securities originating and structuring conduit loans for their CMBS group.  Mr. Randall started his career with Arthur Andersen and Jones Lang Wootton where he valued over $1 billion of real estate in the U.S. and Latin America.  Mr. Randall has over 14 years of real estate experience and holds a B.A. in Economics from Bowdoin College, magna cum laude, and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Steve joined Cohen & Steers in May 2008 as the Chief Investment Officer for Global Realty Partners, a private multimanager real estate investment business.  As of March 30, 2012, Cohen & Steers managed $44.9 billion on behalf of its clients and has offices in New York, Seattle, London, Brussels and Hong Kong.  Steve was a Managing Director at Citigroup Property Investors (CPI) from 2002 through 2008, where he was the founder and portfolio manager of Citigroup Real Estate Partners, a series of globally focused multimanager funds.  Also, Steve functioned as CPI’s Chief Investment Strategist and headed all global research and investment strategy decisions.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Mr. Coyle was the Senior Strategist at Property & Portfolio Research.  From 1990 to 1996, Steve conducted strategic research and due diligence for office, land, and industrial acquisitions for TCW/Westmark Realty Advisors (now CB/Richard Ellis Investors). During the late 1980s, Mr. Coyle was also a Research Director at Grubb & Ellis and worked for Park Square Associates, a New York – based developer.

Steve has been published in many journals and newspapers, and he is a frequent speaker at industry-sponsored events.  Mr. Coyle received a B.A. in Economics and German from Hampden-Sydney College, and an M.A. in Economic Policy from Boston University.

He has over 25 years of real estate investing experience. Jeffrey joined Goldman Sachs as a managing director in November 2010.


Prior to joining the firm, Jeffrey was responsible for leading real estate investment activity, including both direct investments and joint ventures, throughout the United States for ING Clarion Partners, one of the largest US real estate investment management firms and a wholly owned subsidiary of the ING Group. He served on the firm’s Executive Board, Operating Committee and led its Investment Committee. Prior to joining ING in 1993, Jeffrey was a partner at Hamilton Securities, a Washington, DC-based investment bank. From 1989 to 1992, he was responsible for investment sales at Jones Lang LaSalle. Jeffrey began his real estate investment career in 1983 at the Lawrence Ruben Company, a private development and investment company. He also worked in the real estate department of Chemical Bank and in the equity research group at CS First Boston.

Jeffrey is vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM), chairman of the IOPC Gold Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and member of the board of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). He has also served as an adjunct professor in the MBA program at Columbia Business School since 2004.

Peter Sotoloff is a Managing Director of Blackstone Real Estate Debt Strategies fund series and is a founding Member of the Advisor.  Mr. Sotoloff oversees structured finance acquisitions including both origination and legacy loan portfolio investment activities on behalf of the fund.  Mr. Sotoloff is a member of the Investment Committee for Blackstone Mortgage Trust (NYSE: BXMT) and serves on the board of Landmark Apartment Trust.  Mr. Sotoloff is based in New York. Prior to joining Blackstone, Mr. Sotoloff was a Principal at Tribeca Associates, an institutionally capitalized owner, operator and developer in New York City. Mr. Sotoloff oversaw the acquisition, financing and development of large scale office, lodging, for-sale residential and mixed-use assets and portfolios. Sonny Kalsi is one of the Founding Partners of GreenOak Real Estate, a real estate merchant banking platform with operations in New York, London and Tokyo.  He formed GreenOak in early 2010 along with his partners, and former Morgan Stanley colleagues, John Carrafiell (London) and Fred Schmidt (Tokyo).  Sonny was, until early 2009, the Global Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing (MSREI) and President of the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds (MSREF).  Prior to that, he was the Global Co-Head of MSRE Investing.  At its peak, MSRE Investing had approximately $100 billion of assets under management in 33 countries and 25 offices around the world with over 800 full time staff.  The largest concentrations of asset holdings were in the US, UK, Germany, Japan and China.

Prior to managing MSRE Investing globally, Sonny helped to build its Asian business, spending nine years in Hong Kong and Tokyo.  During his tenure, the team grew to over 300 professionals, with an operation that included Japan, China, India, South Korea, Australia and a number of other countries. Before joining Morgan Stanley in 1991, Sonny was employed by PaineWebber in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department.  Sonny has been involved on the boards of a number of the MSRE portfolio companies and continues to act as an important advisor to many of their management teams.  He has been cited in several publications for his profile in the real estate industry, including Private Equity Real Estate magazine as one of the “30 Most Influential” people in private equity real estate globally.


He is a graduate of Georgetown University with a degree in Business Administration and remains actively involved with the school.  Sonny is also involved in a number of industry organizations, including the Urban Land Institute and PREA.  He is a member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University, a Trustee of the Asia Society and a board member of the Jorge Posada Foundation.  Sonny is also actively involved in the Metro NYC and International chapters of YPO.  During the Fall of 2009, Sonny served as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in the Master’s of Real Estate Program, teaching a course in International Real Estate with a focus on Japan and China.

Raphael Fishbach is a director and head of east coast originations at Mesa West Capital. With offices in Los Angeles and New York, Mesa West is a real estate finance company with over $2 billion in lending capacity.   Mesa West primarily provides non-recourse first mortgage loans for value added or transitional properties throughout the United States.  The portfolio includes all major property types with loan sizes from $10 million to $100 million.

Mesa West is actively making non-recourse loans up to 75% loan-to-value and will consider assets with little to no current income.  As a privately funded portfolio lender, Mesa West has great structuring flexibility and can provide certainty of execution for its borrowers.  The investment and due diligence process is extremely streamlined allowing Mesa West to perform under very tight time constraints. 

Prior to joining Mesa West Capital, Mr. Fishbach spent three years at Ramius LLC, an $8 billion asset management firm based in New York City with a specialty investment platform in real estate. As Director of Ramius’ Real Estate Group, Mr. Fishbach`s responsibilities included deal sourcing, origination and underwriting, negotiation of acquisitions, joint ventures and financings, as well as asset management.  Previous to Ramius, Mr. Fishbach was at Wells Fargo Bank in the Real Estate Merchant Banking Group from 2000-2006, both in Los Angeles and New York.  As a Vice President, Mr. Fishbach sourced, structured, negotiated, and closed over $1,000,000,000 of debt originations. While at Wells Fargo, Mr. Fishbach also graduated from the bank`s credit management training program. David Lynn, Ph.D., serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Strategist at Cole Real Estate Investments. In this role, Dr. Lynn leads Cole’s investment strategy and research group and underwriting team, and is primarily responsible for portfolio investment and management strategies, capital market analysis and economic research. In addition, he is an instrumental member of our real estate team, working closely with Cole’s capital markets platform, assisting in the strategy of new products and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders. Dr. Lynn is a member on both Cole’s Executive Committee, which drives the strategic direction of the firm, and Investment Committee, which drives real estate investment decisions.
Dr. Lynn has more than 25 years of investment and research experience. Prior to joining Cole, Dr. Lynn served as Global Head of Investment Strategy and Research at Clarion Partners (previously ING Clarion Partners), where he directed their investment decisions across multi-billion core and value-add real estate investments. He also was a member of their Investment and Operating Committee. Previously, he held senior real estate positions at AIG Global Real Estate, AvalonBay Communities and the Target Corporation. Dr. Lynn has written several books, including Active Private Equity Real Estate Strategy (John Wiley and Sons, 2009), Emerging Market Real Estate Investment (John Wiley and Sons, 2010) and Real Estate Mathematics (PEI, 2011).
Dr. Lynn earned his Ph.D. in Financial Economics at the London School of Economics. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Sloan School of Management, MIT, where he specialized in Finance and Real Estate. Mr. DiCorpo is a seasoned real estate professional who has a broad range of experience in many facets of the industry. He joined CBRE Global Investors from AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp., where he served in various capacities since 1995, including Chief Administrative Officer. He also served as Head of Residential Production where he created a national investment team and oversaw all multifamily investments. Mr. DiCorpo has been involved with Multi-Family opportunistic investments totaling over $3 billion in his career.

Mr. DiCorpo earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical Economics from Colgate University, a Master of Arts degree in Professional Accounting from the University of Hartford and an M.B.A. in Finance and Management from New York University Stern School of Business.  He is active in the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers, National Multi-Housing Council and is a member of ULI’s Multifamily Silver Council (he was previously Vice-Chair of the Multifamily Blue Council).

Immediately prior to joining Clairvue Capital Partners, Mr. Cleveland acted as the board advisor and project manager for North Shore Land Holdings, a fully funded $150 million luxury resort and residential development project in the Caribbean.


Mr. Cleveland holds a Bachelors degree from the University of South Carolina, where he studied Economics and German. He has been a member/delegate to the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) and the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE) and is a frequent speaker at real estate industry conferences. In 2007 Mr. Cleveland was selected by PERE (Private Equity Real Estate) magazine as one of 20 “rising stars” under 40 (years old) in the real estate industry.

Mr. Rollins is President and co-founder of JCR Capital, LLC (Johnson Capital/Rollins). JCR Capital is a specialty real estate finance company, specializing in providing structured debt and equity capital for value added and opportunistic and value added commercial real estate transactions. 

Prior to forming JCR in May 2006, Mr. Rollins was a Managing Director of GMACCM’s Structured Products Group. In this role Mr. Rollins managed a $500 million balance sheet position that focused on originating bridge loans, mezzanine loans, and participating debt. The platform focused on opportunistic real estate transactions, in particular, multifamily, retail, office, industrial, land and affordable housing asset classes. 

Mr. Rollins started the Structured Products Group (SPG) in 1999, and over that time originated and was repaid on over $1.1 billion of high yield loans, achieving an unleveraged IRR of 9.7%. SPG was recognized nationally by numerous industry periodicals including Mezzanine Lender of the Year honors. 

Prior to GMACCM, Mr. Rollins was the President and Founder of Eastern Realty Corporation, a real estate investment and advisory company. Eastern Realty purchased over $400 million of distressed (primary, land and commercial) assets from the RTC and other distressed financial institutions. The assets were repositioned and resold by Eastern Realty. These repositioning efforts included debt restructuring, land development and construction. Eastern Realty was a joint venture partner with Wall Street investment banks, real estate opportunity fund and private equity firms. 

Prior to forming Eastern Realty, Mr. Rollins was Director of Finance for the public homebuilder, NVR, LP. In this position Mr. Rollins was responsible for capital relationships and structuring debt and equity for land development and construction projects. 

Mr. Rollins began his career as a commercial real estate lender with regional banks in the Washington, DC area. Mr. Rollins holds an MBA in Finance from George Washington University and an undergraduate degree in Finance and Marketing from Virginia Tech.

Baczewski’s breadth and depth of institutional real estate experience includes investment strategy development, portfolio and asset management, due diligence and transaction management, operational reviews, accounting, performance measurement, client service and capital formation. Since 1999, Baczewski has been an independent consultant serving the institutional real estate industry.
